The Chinese new year
In Paris, three parades must be held for the occasion.
The first parade, also called “Spring Festival”, will normally take place on Friday, February the 16th in the 3rd and 4th districts of Paris. The start of the parade with dragons, lions, dancers and tanks should be given at 2PM at the Republic Square, after the famous opening ceremony of the eye of the Dragon. The city should offer many cultural activities around the Chinese New Year.
The second parade should take place the following week in the 13th district of Paris (the parisian Chinatown). The procession usually leaves around 1:30PM from Avenue d’Ivry and then follows the following way: Avenue de Choisy, Place d’Italie, Avenue d’Italie, rue de Tolbiac, Avenue de Choisy, Boulevard Massena, Avenue d’Ivry. Every year, more than 100,000 people come to parade to the rhythm of Chinese folk dances. Here again, the 13th district organizes two cultural weeks around the Chinese New Year.
As the previous years, a third Chinese New Year parade is also scheduled to take place in the Belleville district of Paris (the 11th), the 10th, the 20th and the 19th districts. The departure should be given to the Belleville metro at 10:30.
